The Igbo tribe of the South Eastern Part Of Nigeria, Africa, is a culturally rich tribe, known for different kinds of festivals and cultural ceremonies. One of its cultural heritage is the masquerade cult popularly known as Mmanwu. Traditionally speaking, masquerades are believed to be the spirits of the ancestors in the midst of the living. The are highly revered and in most cases feared. Masquerades are also meant for entertainments and festivals in Igbo Land. On this particular day, I attended a burial at a town in Igbo land where masquerades came in their droves. Here are some pictures from their cultural display.
